Liedabrand/Leadabrand in Illinois

Updated March 16, 2004

About Our Family Research

Although name was changed (possibly at Ellis Island) or at time of WWI when German names were suspect, my father's grandfather was Henry Liedabrand and he fled military conscription c. 1840. Married German girl, came to America and settled in Sangamon County, IL. Family described in county history. Of 15 children, 9 lived to adulthood. Married again, a woman from Norway, 9 more offspring, 6 of whom lived. These 15 descen-dants are now spread across U.S. I am searching for their chil-dren and grandchildren. My branch will die out--I was only child and my sons have another name. I am also searching for my mother's family: Luthy/Kibler from Pittsfield, IL. And for my great-grandmother's: Stuart, also from Pittsfield. This will be part of my legacy to my sons, so they know who they are. There is a strong legacy of Christian belief in our family and I am also interested in how this aspect of family life strengthens the family ties. My cousin, Ralph Leadabrand, died in 2000, but I have contact with his daughter, Judy. He also had no sons, so his branch is ended. I am sure there are other cousins in other states, and I hope to locate them.
