I have been working on our Gehrke (my maiden name) family tree for about 2001. The main character of this story is my g-g-grandfather, August Fredrick Gehrke, born in Prussia & immigrated about 1858 or 1859. He was married to Wilhelmina Luss & had five children: Charles, Albert, Julius, August Fredrick (my g-grandfather) & Bertha.
So far, I have gleaned a lot of information from the message boards from Genforum & Ancestry.Com. Most of this information is giving me data to fill in some of my blanks, also the information has been pointing me to many other sources.
I have copies of Baptism records of five of the eight children of my g-grandfather, August, Jr.. They include Otto Karl Wilhelm, Anna Eugenia Eunnic (or Eunnie), Emil Albert (my grandfather) & Karl Ewalt(sp).
I am also working on my mother's side of the family (about 1 year), which includes the surnames of Valentine, Chance and Tinstman. I have the original bible of Elizabeth Tinstman Chance (married to Thomas) in my possesion at the moment. I would love to exchange info with anyone; in particular, the Chance family, as we have nothing prior to Thomas and his father Peter. My grandmother, Caroline Valentine Brandt, said that Peter's wife, Sarah, is the sister of Joseph Gurney Cannon, the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
