The Wisham & Ashworth Families ~ New Jersey & Great Britain

About Our Family Research


We have traced the family back to Jacob & Ann Wisham of Marlton, Evesham Township, Burlington Coutny, New Jersey c. 1770's. They had three children.

Jacob and Ann's first child was Joseph Wisham born June 6, 1770 in Burlington County, New Jersey, and died May 15, 1823 in Gloucester County, New Jersey. His wife's name is unknown. They had three children: William born 1797 in Gloucester County, New Jersey; Rebecca Wisham born August 25, 1799 in Gloucester County, New Jersey; and Isaac Wisham born after 1802 in Gloucester County, New Jersey.

William's son, William Wisham of Chews Landing, Gloucester County, New Jersey married Maria (last name not done). Their children were: Joseph (1825), Samuel P. (1828), William (1831), John (1834), Charles (1844), and George (1846). And Joseph's great grandsons Hewling/Huling Wisham and Harry East Wisham, among others.

Jacob and Ann's second child was Jacob Wisham born June 06, 1770; died May 15, 1823 near Milford, Evesham Township, Burlington County, New Jersey.He married Desire Sparks, November 27, 1801 in Gloucester County, New Jersey (daughter of George Sparks and Mary Inskeep. They had nine children: Samuel (1802) who married Elizabeth English; George Sparks (1805) who married Elizabeth Williams and Ellen Downing; Mary Ann (1807) who married Joseph Prickett and William Mason; Joseph Wisham (1809) who died in infancy; Deisre Bruno (1810) who died unmarried in 1900; Benjamin Wisham (c. 1820) who married Ann Wills; Rebecca (1820) who married William J. Kain; William Wisham (born c. 1821-1825) who may have died in infancy; and Sarah Ann Wisham (1827) who married Carlton Evans.

Jacob and Ann Wisham's third child was Mary Wisham born October 8, 1777 in Medford, Burlington County, New Jersey; April 6, 1868 at 91 in New Jersey. She married Samuel Haines (son of Aaron Haines and Ann Eayre, July 26, 1803 in Medford, Evesham Township, Burlington County, New Jersey. They had six children.

The ASHWORTH family branch here is descended from Richard and Alice (Crosthwaite) Ashworth who emigrated to America in the twenties. They are traced back to Richard Ashworth from Rawthenstall, England. The descent is from Richard (Rawthenstall), Richard Irwin (Blackpool), William (Kearny, NJ).
