Using the base information provided by my cousin David Kay, I've researched the Ashton and related families back to approximately 1800 using census and birth/marriage/death records.

The Ashton family lived round Manchester, England (Moston, then Blackley then Moss Side/Withington and then Horwich before my father moved to Huddersfield, Yorkshire) and seemed to prosper through the industrial revolution and cotton mill years of the second half of the nineteenth centuries.

My half sister Jane now lives in Australia, and with her, her Cousin Margaret (Dodd - now in Lytham) and David Kay, we're researching the family histories.
