From what we have been told, Hilton James Ashbrook was born on the 16th of September 1878 in Strabane, County Tyrone, Ireland. He was the son of Patrick Ashbrook and Mary Powers. Something happened to his parents and at the age of about 9 he got a job on a ship as cabin boy. We think he might have had a brother and a sister. At about the age of 16 he jumped ship in the North Island of NewZealand. He got married to Mary Jane Brown in August 1909 and then produced about 11 kids.
