I, P. Carrington Ashton, have been designated as of 2009, the official historian of the Ashton/Saunders and Reed/Taylor families from King George County, Virginia. Our basic family resource person was my father, A. Carrington Ashton who was born in Virginia, in 1897, and died in Maryland, in 1992. After his mother died, he lived in the home with his great grandmother, Martha Pierce Ashton Ball. Martha lived to be nearly 100 years old. A. Carrington had an incredible memory. It was GGGrandmother Martha's idea for him to learn from her and to pass on as much family information as possible to his (Carrington's) offspring. From the info my father passed on to me, I was able to verify details via the U.S. Census records and the materials found in Mormon libraries. My Dad and I traved many thousands of miles each year visiting church grave yards and county court houses from Virginia up to New York, pulling together and confirming what had been told to him. To date (June, 2010) we have successfully recorded more than 2000 records including both the paternal (Ashton/Saunders) and the maternal (Reed/Taylor) sides of our heritage. We have family reunions each year. Usually, the Ashton/Saunders families get together during the summer of the even years, and the Reed/Taylors meet during the summer of the odd years. My express purpose for submitting these data for publication is in hope that some other researchers in Cyber-world will be doing additional research and find a common family. Oral tradition has now progressed into data research, and currently incredible DNA discoveries - taking us back to our origins. Are you related? P. Carrington Ashton, Roseville, MN
