Richard Ashlock's Descendents

Updated April 28, 2002

About Our Family Research

This is a story about Richard Ashlock (William, William, John) his immediate ancestors and his decendents.

His Great-Grandfather, John Ashlock(e), was born in New Market, Saint Mary, Suffolk, England in 1657. He moved to London, England and was in the Fishmongers'Guild along with Archilbald Archer. He was in an indentured servant to Archibald Archer, and emigrated to the United States headed for Virginia in 1683.

Our family has ties to the Pyte House in Tisbury, Wiltshire, England, by Mary Ashlocke who married Thomas Bennett in the 15th Century, and which are related to Sir John Davies, the notable writer and politician.

John had a son named William (b. 1695) who married Anne Mauk/Munk and his son William was born in 1721 in Philadephia, Pennyslvania's and married Suzanne <in VA>. The family lived primarily in Halifax County, VA with a couple members located in New Kent and Pittylvania counties.

William had 5 sons, Jesse, James, William, Richard, & Josiah, which fought in the Revolutionary War except for Josiah as he was too young. Around 1800 most of the family emigrated to Kentucky, Richard and William came to Lincoln County, VA which was later turned into Lincoln County, Kentucky; and the other brothers lived in the surrounding counties. This is primarily a story about Richard's family.

However, There will be links to the other gedcoms from Jesse and his other brothers.
