About Our Family Research

Cassay Walton asked the Australian Cultural Consultants to find out more about the history of her G/G/Grandfather Stimuti/Simatues/Stamatis/Satmuti Carass whom may have been a Pirate on the Aegean Sea's, near Hydra Island, back in the early 18th century. He married Margaretta Stuthnite and had a son Demetrious in 1831. Stimuti surname may have originally been Karamanoulous before shortening it to Caras/Karas/Carass. He jumped ship near Melbourne/Australia and headed to Tasmania where he met Elizabeth Pope. Demetrious married Elizabeth Pope in Ararat/Australia and had 15 children. Their 4th child Nicholas died of Spina Bifida around 1 years old and his brother Geo whom was about the 10th child died at 19 yrs. Demetrious worked on the Great Western Mines and was called Ass, short for Carass in which he was not impressed, so he changed his name to Carra being that his wife and off springs also carried the name.
A family reunion is soon to take place in the year 2004 in Australia and Cassay is certainly determine to track her ancestors history as well as family down for this special occassion.
