My ancestor John James Asling first set foot in Canada in 1819. According to an old newspaper clipping he was sailing up the St. Lawrence River on the day that the future Queen Victoria was born, May 24th. He brought with him his wife the former Mary Taylor and two very small children, Harriet and Edward. Between then and 1832 we have no accounting of their time except that there were 3 more children born, the first in Cramaha Twsp 1821, the twins in Highland Creek in 1825. From there they arrived in brock about 1832 where the other 3 boys were born. Gradually, as the boys matured they moved into Reach, which was later being settled than Brock, even though it is south of Brock. Most of them settled around the Greenbank area, fanning out from there. later, soem moved into the US with their families, Ohio and Michigan, later still to Montana and California. many relatives still live in the original area although their surname is not Asling. I am the 6th generation from Joh james and there are now 2 more beyond me. My parents are still living. My father, Donald is 86 while my mother will soon be 90, living where Dad was born.
