Not knowing much about my mother's biological father (he died before she was three due to flu epidemic), I began researching the Godfrey Cox lineage. It seems to go back to Noah Cox born in 1800 in Maryland. He married a Mary Cook from Virginia. They had children who were mostly farmers and farmers wives in the area of mid to south western/central Ohio.
