The Descendants of Isaac White of Nailsea

Updated November 9, 2000

About Our Family Research

These are the descendants of Isaac White and Hester Coombs, both of the parish of Nailsea near Bristol. Isaac White was born in 1755 and was variously described in the records as a yeoman, coalminer, farmer and accountant. His great grandson, Isaac William Hewitt White was born in Nailsea in 1851 but moved to Yorkshire following his father's death with his two unmarried sisters, Florence and Gertrude. His younger brother, Arthur Hardcastle emigrated to the United States where his descendants still live in California. I W H White became a successful mining engineer in association with Mr Mammott and in 1880 married Margaret Day with whom he had five daughters, Margaret ("Margie"), Evelyn, Kathleen, Louisa ("Louie") and Florence. I W H White died in 1897 but Margaret his wife moved to Bury St Edmunds and lived until 1940. The five daughters moved to different parts of England after they married but remained in close touch with each other and with their mother. Photographic portraits of I W H White and Margaret together with the five sisters are attached. Group pictures are available on request.
