The Astern's and Meyerson's from New York are the basis of my family tree. The Astern's are originally from Harpoot, Turkey, Russia and Romania. Astern is my father's paternal side of the family.Astern was not the original name of the family. In Turkey the name was Hassan. The maternal side of my father's family include the Brutchner's from Russia and the Leopold's from Romania. The Astern's (Leopold's) married into many other families, some of which are: Seidenstein, Rosenthal, Epstein, Roth, Davidson, Steinberg, Behrman, Goldstein and, of course, the Meyerson/Gallender Family.
The Meyerson's are the maternal side of my mother's family and are originally from Lunna, Grodno, Grodno, Russia. In Lunna the family name was originally Martzinowsky or Marzinofsky depending on who was recording the name. The whole Jewish community in Lunna was anhialated by the Nazis, and there are no Jews living there now. Today, Lunna is part of the country of Belarus. The Meyerson's married into many other families, some of which are: Gordon (including the professional baseball player, Sid(Sidney)Gordon), Friedman, Keshner, Finkelstein, Goldblatt, Tencer, Heller, Shapiro, and of course, the Gallenders.
The paternal side of tmy mother's family are the Gallender's from Warsaw, Poland. At the time the family lived there, it was not Poland, but part of Russia. The original name is Gelender or Gellender, Galender, or whatever was written on various documents. The history of the Jews of Warsaw and the Warsaw Ghetto has been very well documented by professionals, so I won't say much about Warsaw except to say that today, thank G-d, there is a small but growing Jewish population. The Gallender's married into some of the following familes(I will not include here those mentioned above with the Meyersons): Simon, Levine, Allen, and The Meyersons.
Anyone who is alive, and does not want their information shown on the internet, please contact me and I will respect your wishes as to what you want to be available on the web page. I would like to posthumously thank and bless my ancesters, who came from other countries where Jews were the fodder for the concentration camps and crematoriums, for their unexpected foresight in comming to America before the rise of the barbarian Hitler. We wouldn't be alive if not for them.
