The Atherall Family originally from the South East of England, has some branches in the USA also.
It appears to be one of the older English names, and one of the rarer.
I originate from ROYAL TUNBRIDGE WELLS , KENT ,ENGLAND and was born in April 1953.My brother Julian was born there in 1956, and our mother also, in 1933.All three of us born at the same Maternity Home( which is no longer there).My father Dennis Atherall was born at Rusthall, Kent in 1928.
Personally,I have one grown child in England, from my first marriage to Kathy McDowall. I have two grandchildren.
I have six more exotic Atherall children in the Pacific Islands , and two more grandchildren here, by a second marriage, to Sheila Goudeau, so have done my bit to keep the Atherall's around!
Will there be more ?? As of year 2001,and presently divorced, that remains to be seen.
Most Atherall's I come across in research are from Kent or Sussex, though. I have got back to 1720 and into the 1600's on some directions.
The www.genforum.genealogy.com is extremely helpful as a research tool, as is www.ancestry.com and local Parish Record Offices in England, and of course word of mouth from relatives.
Any information you might have ,would be most welcome.
I did discover I had two uncles at the turn of the century ,who emigrated to Maine, USA, from Sussex, England.
