My mother Hazel Jean AUER nee {RATH} conducted an extensive research into the family tree of both the Auer's and Rath's over a number of years. Mother was able to secure photos, birth certificates, and other material back to the nineteenth cetury. A photographic album of both sides of the family was produced for each of her children Lynette,Raymond,Gwen,Helen and Dudley displaying prints of family and ancestors back six generations. A AUER family name history is also displayed as follows;
BLAZON OF ARMS; Argent, a lions head erased gules Argent {silver} denotes Peace and Purity, gules {red} Valour and Fidelity. The lion denotes Majesty.
CREST; The lion head of the arms.
ORIGIN; Norway.
The earliest documentation of the surname AUER dates back to the thirteenth century Germany, when one Ludwig OWER {or OUWER}is recorded in the "Wurttembergisches Urkundenbuch"; he was a knight of the Esslingen. In 1294 one Johannes us der OUWE of Cowental appears in the "Furstenbergisches Urkundenbuch", while in 1379 one Hans von der AW is noted in the records of the House of Habsburg, the Austrian Royal Family.
