Descendants of Jacob Alt I
Generation One
1. JACOB1 ALT I; b. circa 1725 at Germany?; m. Maria Elizabetha circa 1749?; d. between 9 Nov 1770 and 15 Dec 1770 at Frederick Co., Maryland. Jacob Alt was in the Frederick Co. Maryland area by June 2, 1750, when he and his wife Maria Elizabetha had their oldest son Johannes baptized at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Frederick town. This would seem to disprove him being the same Jacob Alt who arrived in Phildelphia in 1751, on the Ship Phoenix from Europe. A Warrant was granted to Jacob Auld (a German Protestant) for 100 acres of land called "Benjaner Panry" in Frederick Co., Maryland, bearing a date by renewment December 23, 1751. A certificate of survey for 100 acres called "Benjaner Panry" was examined and passed June 18, 1753. On March 20, 1754, Jacob Auld assigned over to Jacob Peek, all his right & title to the 100 acres called "Benjaner Panry". (1.) Jacob Auld of Frederick Co., Maryland had due him 28 acres of land, 25 acres by virtue of a Warrant for 50 acres granted him Dec. 23, 1761, and for the remaining 3 acres he paid three shillings sterling. The 28 acre tract of land called "Little Worth", evidently part of a total grant of 103 acres, was patented to Jacob Auld March 25, 1762. (2.) This 28 acre portion of the plantation on the Potomac River, called "Little Worth", was inherited by Jacob's son Henry. A certificate of survey for Jacob Ald for 50 acres in Frederick Co., Maryland, called "End of Strife" was examined and passed August 10, 1763. (3.) ( The back of this survey has Jacob Alt's own signature. It looks like Jacob wrote his name as Alt, without an "u", and definitely with a "t" and not a "d". P.A.B.) Jacob Alt's(Auld in the will) will was written November 9, 1770, and proved Jan. 8, 1771 in Frederick Co. Maryland. He left his wife Amerillis or Elizabeth one third of all his real & personal estate, one horse, bridle & saddle. The remaining part of the estate was to be equally divided between his children; Eldest son John, second son Henry, third son Jacob, fourth son William, eldest daughter Amerillis, fifth son John Adam, and sixth son Michael. Jacob's son Henry was to live on his plantation and have possession of it. (4.)

MARIA ELIZABETHA died after 8 Sep 1784. She was also known as Amerillis. Children of Jacob1 Alt I and Maria Elizabetha were as follows: i. Johannes/John2; b. circa 1750 at Frederick Co.?, Maryland ?; christened 2 Jun 1750 at Frederick, Frederick Co., Maryland; m. Mary? Magdalena circa 1769 at Frederick Co.?, Maryland; d. before 22 Mar 1788 at Washington Co., Maryland. John Alt appears to have lived in Frederick/Washington Co. Maryland all his life, having been baptized probably as an infant on June 2, 1750 in Frederick Co. He was in the Maryland Militia during the Revolutionary War, along with his brothers, Henry & William. His name was enrolled on March 9, 1776, under Capt. Henry Boteler's Company in Frederick Co. (4.) On the Washington Co., Maryland 1783 Tax Assessment List of Lower Antietam Hundred, John Alt is listed as owner of Little Worth, 63 acres of woods and 40 acres of arable land.(5) It appears Little Worth was actually 103 acres in total and John was paying taxes on all of the land before 1784. On Sept. 8, 1784, John Ault bought the 28 acre tract from his brother Henry for seven pounds. John's son William inherited the 28 acres after his father's death, and sold it to his Uncle Jacob Alt of Jefferson Co. Va. in 1808. It is not known what happened to the other 75 acres of Little Worth. John & his wife Mary? Magdalena must have gone across the river to Lo
