The Days and Schmidts were "pioneers" in Alaska, arriving there in the 1920s. The Days were from Virginia and West Virginia. William Schmidt was born in Beserabia, Russia in 1898, a German from Russia, son of Johan Jacob Schmidt and Carolina Ritter. Their families emmigrated from Russia to Canada in 1904. The Days were from a large family in VA - related to James Day and Emma Easter Prewitt, Pea Patch and Iager, West VA. Mary Jane Schmidt (Daughter of Lula Belle Day Schmidt and William Schmidt) married Frank Jens Aurdal in 1962. Frank is the son of Arnor Aurdal (Spokane, WA) and Agnes Nanette McArthur (New Era, Oregon).
