I have just begun searching in the last year for family, and it has been a real learning experience! My father's name is James Delmar Partridge, and he was born in Buffalo, New York. From there he moved to Eden. He married Alice Marie Bauer or Bay View, New York. I have also been researching the Bauer side, as we know little about my mother's father.
We have just started having reunions, this year will be our 2nd. We will be celebrating my mother's 80th birthday the same time, so it will be special.
I have found that my father's mother's ancestors came over from Ireland, I believe County Cork. Their name was Symington; though both were born in Ireland, I believe the name has Scottish roots. I have yet to find out anything about their life over there, except they emigrated to escape the great famine. The Partridge line has been over here in the Buffalo area for quite some time, though when they emigrated from England I haven't found yet. I have found they lived in Collins, North Collins as well as Buffalo.
My next step is to send for my great-grandfather James Symington's death certificate from Buffalo, hopefully this will tell me where he was born in Ireland and who his parents were. He died quite young and his wife would have known all this. I have sent for My great-great grandfather Sylvander Partridge's death certificate from the state of New York, hoping to learn when he was born and who his parents are.
My next trip to the western NY area, I will visit Patchen cemetary, where alot of Partridge's are buried. I plan to visit the Buffalo library also. I
