Hager Messer, 82, of Wheelersburg, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002 at the Southern Ohio Medical Center's Emergency Room. He was born Nov. 7, 1919 in Greenup County, KY, a son of the late Edward and Janie Brown Messer. He was a retired Crane Operator at Empire Detroit Steel Corporation. He is survived by his wife, Bertha L. Salyers Messer, whom he married Nov. 8, 1941 in Portsmouth. Also surviving are two daughters: Patricia Ann Lavender and her husband; Jerry W. of Zephyr Hills, FL; Barbara Jean Davis and her husband, Bob of New Boston; three grandchildren: Mark Allen Lavender, Rob Davis and Jennifer Nichols; three great-granddaughters: Stephanie Davis, Tristen Nichols, and Kyla Nichols. He was preceded in death by eight brothers: William, Carl, Earl, Alvin, Calvin, Howard, Cecil, and Brady Messer; and two sisters: Alma Marion and Jan Boggs. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002 at the D. W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston, with Rev. Mike Gifford officiating. Burial at Memorial Burial Park
