William Clarence Baker (son of James Frank Baker and Minnie Jane Johnson) was born 31 May 1919 in St Paul, AR, and died 27 Oct 1983 in Springdale, AR. He married Mary Kathryn Carroll, daughter of Hilton Welch Carroll and C. Delia Harrison.

Wm C Baker served in Army during WWII, and was stationed in Germany. He was in transportation.
After being discharged, he sold his and Kathryn's house in St Paul, and he and his brother Frank bought
a small gas station-country store and small acreage with 2 houses near Mulberry, AR. He attended
mechanic's school at night, on GI bill, as they did some repairs at the station.

Around 1948, he and Frank and their families moved to North Carolina, around Durham where they hauled timber from forests to sawmills. After that they moved to Summerville, S. C. where they each bought 2 large flatbed trucks, and hauled timber out of the forests and swamps. Kathryn's brother Welch Carroll, and his wife Joanne came to Summerville to work for Bill, driving one of the trucks.
Later, they moved to Harlan, KY, and also did the same work, and after that they moved to Lowell, AR in 1951, and bought a 40 acre farm there on Puppy Creek. The farm now is split by Hwy 540.

In 1954, he was sworn in as Postmaster of Lowell, and sold the farm, and built a new house on Hwy 7l in Lowell, where he and Kathryn lived until they divorced in 1963. He was Postmaster for 17 years and an avid Domino player at the Lowell Sport Shop, where several of the men in Lowell met every morning to gossip, drink coffee, and play Dominoes. It was a tradition for MANY years, jokenly began as the Lowell "Spit & Whittle Club"

Bill died in1983, and is buried in the Goad Springs cemetery at Lowell, AR.
