II, Vol. 2, p. 112: Job Gridley, 1746-1797, Samuel and Rebecca Chamberlain's son Job Gridley married Sybel Porter on May 10, 1768 in Farmington, CT. Job settled in Sheffield, CT where he remained until 1790 and then moved west and owned a large farm near Clinton, NY, which at the timne had only one frame house. Job was known as a man "of considerable affairs" and "a shrewd political student." Job and Sybel Gridley's son Simeon (1769-1810) and his wife Clarissa moved with their parents to Clinton in Oneida Co, NY where their son Jared Clement was born in 1810. Job Gridley d. in Clinton, NY on 6/16/1797.

Porter, father of the late Dr. Noah Porter and grandfather of President Porter. Deacon Noah Porter, who served in this expedition, lived in his boyhood in the house of his father Robert which stood where now stands the brick house built by the late Francis W. Cowles, next north of Miss Adgate’s pharmacy. The house was given him by his father on his marriage in 1764, and was occupied by him until about 1781, when, after the birth of Dr. Porter, he removed to what is now the town farm on the road to Avon. This he sold in 1809 and returned to village life at the house of his son, then the pastor of the church of which the father had been for thirty-four years a deacon.
