Includes NotesNotes for Clara Dorothy Thomas:
During World War II Clara, having met Roy Ball, worked at James Gibbons on Snow Hill making munitions. She would work 8 pm through to 7 am, my father having finished work and met her at 6:30 pm when they would go to the Melbourne Arms public house, Melbourne St (off Dudley Rd) for a drink, they did most of their courting this way.
Mom died at 8:15 pm on Wednesday 9th December 1992.
Mom attended first Gt Brickiln St Council School then went on to Old Fallings School Old Fallings Lane, her teacher was Miss Hall, it was at this time I believe that she and dad first met. Although Aunt Nance (Annie Thomas) felt that when she was 10 or 11 years old and used to go to the Gunmakers Arms in Graisley St (backed on to Graisley passage where the car park was situated), dad came with his parents each Sunday lunch time in a 'nigger' brown car with a canvas top.
