* The Charles D. Barksdale Jr. Family Home Page*

Updated November 18, 2011

I'm still a rookie at searching for my ancestors, although I have made a fair amount of progress since I began in 1999. I have been concentrating on the Barksdale line. Before I started, all I knew was that my great-grandfather, Sherod Barksdale, came to the Philadelphia area in the early 1900's from Clinton, Sampson County, North Carolina.

I have since found the following information about his ancestors, all from North Carolina: Sherod's parents were Sherod Barksdale (1845-1889) and Harriet Rozier Pierce Barksdale Rogers (1855-1931). Sherod's parents were George Thomas Barksdale (1807-1852) and Martha Ann Peterson Barksdale Slocumb (1826-1894). George's parents were Sherrod (or Sherwood) Barksdale (1775?-1844) and Biddy Barge. Sherrod's other siblings were John Rogers Barksdale, Mary Margaret Barksdale Williams, Elizabeth Barksdale Bailey, and David Barksdale. I have found some other descendants of Sherrod, but no one has been able to find his parents' names. Any help would be appreciated. These Barksdale's all lived in the Cumberland County, Bladen County and Sampson County area of North Carolina.

I now have some information on the ancestors of the women who married the Barksdale's, including that Harriet Rozier Pierce Barksdale Rogers is descended from Pennsylvania Brigadier General Daniel Roberdeau from the Revolutionary War.
