The Burton Family Lineage

Updated September 2, 2003

About Our Family Research

George Burton,Sr. was a full blooded Choctaw Indian who
came to Louisiana, it is believed, from Florida. His wife's
name was Aurelia, also a Choctaw Indian. They had a son named George Burton, Jr. Who was a Farmer and Blacksmith. His wife
was of Irish decent and her name was Rebecca Williams. They had eight children, which included one set of twins.
One of their sons, John Wesley,Sr. and Spizette Chatman were the parents of my father, John Wesley, Jr., who's twin brother, George, died shortly after birth.
John Wesley,Sr. was a Farmer, Business Man, and raised Cattle. He also owned, The Burton General Store. He was a big landowner and gave enough of this land for an Elementary school to be erected, which was named "The Burton School."
Being a promonent citizen in the community, the community and the bridge spanning the 'Lil River' bore his name.
