James M. Hughes, Sr. (son of Jerry Hughes and Augusta Dillard) was born Abt. 1921, and died March 15, 1969 in Hampton, VA. He married Isla Louise Adams, daughter of Jesse Irby Adams and Bessie Perthenia Williamson.

James M. Hughes, Sr. 48, died Saturday in the Dixie Hospital in Hampton. Mr. Hughes was born in Horry County and was retired employee of the Newport News shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. He was a son of the late Mrs. Augusta D. Hughes and Herry F. Hughes of Loris. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Louise Adams Hughes; his father, a son James E. Hughes, Jr. of Hampton, VA; a daughter Mrs. Floyd Franklin of Vernon, TX; six brothers Andrew Hughes of Newport News, VA, Robert Hughes of Charleston, SC, Tilman Hughes of US Air Force in Saigon, the Rev. Thomas E., Jefferson, and Daniel Hughes, all of Loris, and three sisters Mrs. Felton McQueen of Whiteville, NC Mrs. Furman Stevens of Conway, SC, and Mrs. Fred Stanley of Loris. Funeral Services were to be Tuesday in Hardwick Funeral Home. Burial was to be in th Old Pleasan Grove Cemetery.
