Joseph BELL (son of Robert Michael BELL and Jean E. Ryan) was born 27 August 1918 in Chicopee, Crawford, Kansas, and died 13 December 1999 in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas. He married Wynona BRIM on 01 June 1941 in Joplin, Jasper, Missouri.

TOPEKA -- Lt. Col. (retired) Joseph P. Bell, 80, of Topeka, died Monday,
Dec. 13, 1999, at a Topeka hospital

He was born April 27, 1919, at Chicopee, to Robert and Jean Bell.

He married his wife, Wynona, on June 1, 1941, at Joplin, Mo.

He entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 19, 1940, in Crawford County. He
served during World War II as company commander of K Company 409th
Regiment, 193rd Infantry Division. He served in Japan and Turkey. He
also served during the Korean War. He served with the 11th Airborne
Division and the Headquarters of the 18th Airborne Corps. He was a
master parachutist. Col. Bell served in a diplomatic capacity during the
U.S. mission to Cuba. He was instrumental in establishing the National
Guard in Puerto Rico.

He was the general manager of the Yellow Cab Company in Topeka.

He served in the Good Neighbors program of the American Red Cross for
12 years. He was of the Catholic faith.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Nancy Clark of Denver;
Joyce Kunze of Burnsville, Minn., and Janet Barnes of Topeka; a sister,
Jean Stermlon of Erie, Colo.; two brothers, John Bell of Santa Barbara,
Calif., and William Bell of Topeka; six grandchildren; and two
great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a son, Aubrey Mark Bell, in 1976.

Services were Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town
Chapel. Burial was in the Topeka Cemetery. Arrangements were under
the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
