Richard BELL (son of George Washington BELL and Anna Elizabeth POOLE) was born August 1893 in Kansas, and died 29 November 1959 in Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma. He married (1) Leila P. O'DONNELL on 29 May 1914 in Scammon, Cherokee, Kansas. He married (2) Jane on Aft. 1920.

DEATH TAKES RICHARD BELL
Ex-Pro Ball Player Long Time Umpire

Richard (Red) Bell, 66, of 3744 S. Union Ave., city water department employee and former longtime Tulsa area softball
umpire, died Sunday night in a Tulsa hospital after a brief illness.

A former professional baseball player, Mr. Bell officiated at more than 5,000 baseball and softball games before his
retirement.

Born at Weir, Kans., and reared at Scammon, Kans., he had lived in Tulsa since 1922. He worked for the Texas Co.
and the now defunct Producers and Refiners Co. before going to work for the city in 1937.

Mr. Bell was a member of the Methodist church.

He began his umpiring activities in 1925 while playing catcher for the Producers and Refiners team. He stayed with
baseball until 1933, umpired in both for 2 years, then confined himself to city park department softball games for the
remaining years of his career.

On his retirement in September 1956, "Red Bell Night" drew a capacity crowd to Newblock park.

Mr. Bell attended 11 world softball tournaments and was one of the coaches of the Deep Rock team which captured a
national title in Detroit in 1942.

He is survived by the widow, Jennie; a son, Richard G. Bell, 4126 E. 35th st.; a brother, George Bell, Scammon, and six sisters, Mrs. Ann Flanagan, Mrs. Mary Brown, Mrs. Maggie Renfro and Mrs. Ethel VonDrake, all of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Golden Hisle, of Arma, Kans., and Mrs. Darlene Gaddy, New York.

Arrangements are pending with Stanleys funeral service.
