MADELINE BIGELOW, born March 30, 1950 in Caguas, Puerto Rico
PATERNAL GREAT GRANDFATHER
Thomas Bigelow, Born: 1840-43, Died: Date Unknown (Birth year is approximate, since in each listed census there is a 1-2 yr. difference in reported age).
Based on data from the 1880 Census for Albany, N.Y.
Registered as born in NY, 37 yrs. old and his father was from Ireland and mother was from France. At the time married to Mary A. Bigelow, 26 yrs. old and living in Albany, N.Y. Sometime after this census he moved to Kings County, N.Y. Known children at the time were:
1. Mary E. Bigelow, registered as 11 yr. old daughter (Birth: 1869 aprox.)
2. John F. Bigelow, registered as 6 yr. old son (Born: 1874-75 aprox.)
Based on data from the 1900 Census for Kings County, Brooklyn, N.Y.
He is registered as 58 yrs. old and a widower with three sons, but based on the significant age difference between the oldest son and the two younger ones, most likely the younger ones were from a second marriage from which he widowed (no name given for wife in this census). Also, daughter Mary E. is no longer with him, most likely by this time she was married and living elsewhere. Children registered at the time were:
1. John F. Bigelow, registered as 25 yrs. old, born July 1874 and Single.
2. Thomas Bigelow, registered as 9 yrs. old and born April 1891 (My grandfather).
3. William Bigelow, registered as 6 yrs. old and born August 1893. (Soc. Sec. Death Records indicate that Wm. Bigelow was born Aug. 28, 1892 and died in March 1967 and that he was from Kings County, Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Based on data from the 1910 Census for Kings County, Brooklyn, N.Y.
He is registered as 70 yrs. old, married and having a 7 yr. old daughter (Helen). If this is correct, most likely sometime between 1900-1903, he married for a third time. Also it is recorded that this was his wife's second marriage and that she had two other sons living with them.
Based on data from the 1920 Census for Kings County, Brooklyn, N.Y.
He is registered as being 79?? Yrs. old (apparently he wasn’t quite sure of his age) and still living in Kings County, Brooklyn, N.Y. No further data provided.

On July 19, 1938 in Queens County, N.Y. my grandmother had the marriage to Thomas L. Bigelow, Sr. aned and she remarried Joseph Marciano, who had his name changed to Joseph March.
