The Blain family information listed on this site was gathered directly from descendants of the Deleware County, Ohio Blains.
Alam and Elam were prolific, having large numbers of offspring and occasionally, remarrying and having more children after a spouse passed away.
Of Alam:
From the 1880 Delaware County History sometime after 1880, Elem (II) a widower by this time, went to Paulding, OH and lived with Solomon or other family there, and died there. "His father (Elam the first), was born May 15, 1760 , in New Jersey, who, at 17 years of age, enlisted in the Light Horse Command, under Gen. Anthony Wayne, and fought three years in the Revolutionary War. When in his 23d year, he was married to Catherine Read; she was born in New Jersey Oct. 28, 1763. A few years after his marraige, he moved to Pennsylvania, where he remained until 1815 when he came to Ohio, locating in Zanesville, and in 1820 came to Delaware Co., locating in Harlem Township, where he died in 1845, and some seven years later his wife died; they were members of the Christian Church."
"Marriage Records of the Zion Lutheran Church at Oldwick", as reported in "Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey", Volumn 40, page 10, in which I see that Elam Blain and Catharine Reed were married 12 APR 1784. http://www.zionlutheranoldwick.org/index.htm
The Blain family is a million-peice-puzzle connecting many family groups, perhaps yours. Please, contact me if you believe you may be part of this descendancy or if you have information about Alam's father (possibly Joseph of New Jersey) or mother. We'd be happy to hear from you.
