About Our Family Research

The name Bowden is a very old name in England,we are first found in Cheshire, where they were seated from very early times, and where granted lands by Duke William of Normandy, their liege Lord, for their distinguished assistance at the Battle of Hasting Moving on a few years to the years 1381-1665 The Bowden Family resided in Bowden Hall (just outside Chapel-en-le Frith} but changed a vowel in their name to match the spelling of the Bowden ward of the former Royal Forest of the Peak where their house is still situated The Occupier of Bowden Hall, today is the grandson of the first captain of the famous Manchester United football team Moving on again the Bowden family of mine have, since at least 1850 lived in Manchester having moved from Northwich ,Weaverham, Gt Budsworth where we were all carpenters or boat people, working the Salt Mines I belive Bowden means over the hill ,And my daughter says " Dad your over the hill"
