John T. Davis migrated from Lowndes County, AL to Lafayette County, Arkansas, (now Miller)between 1859 and 1864. He married Jemima Jane Bullard 19 Feb. 1846 in Lowndes County, Al. John and Jemima had 12 children. The first eight children being born in Lowndes County. The nineth child; Flora A. Davis could have been born in Lowndes County. There is no 1860 Census of John T. Davis located at this time to prove otherwise. The last three children were born in Lafayette County, AR.
John T. Davis was not the first of his family to move to Lafayette County, AR. His sister Malsey Davis, the oldest daughter of Sampson and Rebecca Davis, married Henry J. Davis on October 11, 1836 in Lowndes County. The couple are located in Lafayette County on the 1860 census. This researcher believes that John Davis, son of Sampson, and brother of Malsey, both listed as desecendants of Sampson followed his sister and brother-in-law to Arkansas after the death of Sampson. A Thomas Davis (born 1817)is listed on the 1850 census next door to Sampson, but is not listed on the probate records. John T. Davis and Jemima Bullard are found on the 1850 living close to Thomas Bullard, and then located in Lafayette Co.AR. on the 1870 Census. Where were they in 1860?
