My late mother was born in 1904 in Sheksna (village and river near Cherepovets, Russia). She was sent to China to escape the Revolution and lived during her school days with a sister first in Harbin then Shanghai. She had travelled alone on the trans-Siberian railway to escape the troubles - not bad for a young girl! She worked in a bookshop in Shanghai where she met my father who worked for the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank (John Sutherland). They married and my father worked all his life with the Bank in the Far East. My mother never returned to Russia and after a while lost complete contact with all the family. She was one of about 5 living children (12 births). My late grandfather Eugene worked I believe in a Saw Mill on the River Sheksna. My greatest regret is not finding more from my mother. She died at 92 and it is my dearest wish to find anything about her side of the family. I must have cousins around the world somewhere!!
