My Grandmother, Dora Fowler Dreas, and my Mom, Helen Dreas Boyd, were the ones that got me interested in my family history. I have been fortunate enough to have found the pieces of information that they longed to know and a whole lot more. My cousin, Yvonne Chester Hoblit, and I have traveled a lot together to do our own research. We have gone to courthouses, cemeteries, libraries and elsewhere to do our thing and have fun doing it. We also belong to several genealogical societies. For instance: The Woodbury County Iowa Genealogical Society, the Monona County Genealogical Society, the Nebraska State Genealogical Society and a variety of others.
The reason I chose this title "Across the Wide Missouri" is because it doesn't matter which line of my family you want to know about at some point in time right down to the present you will find them on either side of the Missouri and making a living from along the river banks, the river itself, and from just being in the area of the river with different town businesses. Come to think of it. Most if not all were self-made men and women who were their own bosses. In that number you'll find my father and mother.
Our goal is to make our family tree full and vibrant with many leaves and buds that are ready to blossom.
In recent years we have lost quite a few family members who are now flowers in the field of life and of life beyond. I believe, that sometimes they guide us along the way and help us find that one little piece of information that we seek. There is no other way to explain some of the happenings that we have encountered from time to time. We've taken a wrong turn in the car and ran right into (figuratively speaking) what we had been looking for all along, or when we take out that last book after a bust of a day discouraged beyond belief and wham there in a notation is what we needed to be able to expand on our lines. So we keep on looking and recording our history not for us but for those that will follow so that they can have a sense of who we all are and the good stock that they came from.
