Anna Hugo Cuniff, a coal miner's daughter born in 1890, was a warm, adventurous and God-loving woman, who through her strength and determination is the reason that a great line of strong women are able to live, love and thrive today.
A turn of the century woman with a 21st century spirit, Anna was widowed in Shenandoah Pa at 28 years old, with three young daughters, Mary, Anna and Isabelle. Approximately 10 years later, through what her daughter Anne called divine intervention, Anna moved herself and her children to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she worked as at Morey LaRue Laundry. It was a place she vowed her daughters would never work. They didn't. They married and had children of their own, who had children of their own, who had children of there own. It has been four generations since Anna and her descendants are lawyers, teachers, professionals, nurses, occupational therapists and law officers to name a few.
It is her history and lineage that I am trying to trace. Her husband was Thomas Cuniff (born in Pa to two Irish immigrants). Her father was Joseph Hugo (born in Eng) and her mother was Mary Ann Trinkle (born in Pa). Her grandmother's last name was Brophy (born in Ireland). Any information about any of these names is greatly appreciated.
