This is the starting point for the research of the origins of the Brüge family. The earliest occurence of the name that can be traced back is from the region around Warsaw (Warschau), Poland, from where they moved to Tarutino, Bessarabia, in around 1800 showing up as first settlers in this village. As most german cities in Bessarabia, Tarutino inhabitants were re-settled around 1930 back to german main land and were then moved to occupied Poland in WW II in order to farm polish crofts. In 1944/1945 most of the people had to flee west again and stranded as displaced somewhere in Germany. Around 1870 and 1900 however, members of the Brüge family migrated to the US, most likely from the Black Sea harbour of Odessa and settled in and around Michigan. My main interest is to get the traces back to german main land before 1780 as the region around Warsaw became politically part of germany at that time and a "receptacle" for emigrants from all over german main land, especially the south.
