Guðlaugur Magnússon (son of Magnús Magnússon and Guðrún Jónsdóttir) was born 1848, and died 1917. He married Henrietta Vilhelmina Clausen in Arnes, Manitoba, daughter of Marteinn Clausen and Þorgerður Gunnlaugsdóttir.

He migrated to Canada with Jóhannes in 1874. They were in Ontario one year before arriving in Gimli on October 21, 1975. He homesteaded alongside Johannes and gave his farm the same name, Dagverdarnes.

1899 Landnám Islending í Nýja Íslandi by Olafur S. Thorgeirsson´s Almanak - article describing the icelandic settlement by Gudlauger, and mentioned in Th. Th. Thorteinsson´s Saga Vestur Islendinga.

Gudlauger was the first postmaster of Nes and ran this from his home for 13 years. He was noted for his writing hand written copies of old stories. He was first to suggest that records should be kept on Icelander who migrated to Canada.

Guðlauger and Guðmundur wrote two books while still in Iceland, and they have been turned over by a relative, Bjorn Jónsson to Landsbókasafnið in 1965. Another book of 1000 pages is kept by his nephew Gunnsteinn Magnusson.
