The Flynn/Willis Family Tree
Updated October 8, 2003
| About Our Family Research |
|
The Flynn/Willis Tree originates in Barnwell County, South Carolina. The Willis family grew out of the town of Blackville and the Flims(Peeples, Flems, Flynn),from the area around Williston. My research began in 1997 and was based on information collected by my first cousin Larry Manning who died in 1985. We had spoken numerous times about "tracing our roots" and his notes, apparently the result of conversations with older relatives, now passed, left a rich foundation on which to build. My subsequent research has involved innumerable conversations with various family members, immediate and distant, reviews of the Federal Census Records between 1850 and 1920, the Social Security Death Indexes, as well as several "family bibles". A 1999 visit to Blackville and Williston allowed me to interview older church members of the Frost Branch Missionary Baptist Church and to meet for the first time several 2nd cousins. Forays into the Frost Branch Cemetary and the Cemetary at Blackville yielded birth and death dates of numerous family members and strangely increased the sense of connection to the past. The work and research continues and there will be periodic updates to this site. I welcome the family's input and stories.
