This is a page of the Brightbill's of Pocahontas Virginia. Pocahontas is located on the Virginia/West Virginia border in Tazewell Co. Va. When I started my research all we knew was that my mother, Thelma Ruth McElyea Rodgers born in 1920 in Mountain City Tennessee, was raised by a family friend and was seperated from her natural family at an early age. My father, Harold Stuart Brightbill born Harold R. Stewart in 1916 in Pocahontas,Va., was adopted by Harvey and Bertha Brightbill in Pocahontas Va. He was the son of Mary Bowen who worked as a housekeeper in the Brightbill's house. From that beginning I started on what now seems like an endless journey.
