The People of Verona Island, Maine

About Our Family Research

My name is Lisa Bridges. I have been researching Verona Island, ME for about 3 years. Previous names of the island, used to be, "Isle of Lett", "Orphan's Isle", and "Wetmore Isle Plantation". I have alot of surnames such as Abbott, Whitmore, Wetmore, Hopkins, Heath, Bridges, Wardwell, and many others. I am writing a book on the settlers of the island. My ancestors have been here for at least 250-300 years. It is very interesting, and I would like to find out more about the families and their lives then. The island was actually settled in the late 1700's. It originated from King Henry IV, in the 1400's. It ended up being part of a patent that was once owned by Sam Waldo and Henry Knox. Later being sold to other people, and eventually being incorporated as a town in 1820. If you have any information, please mail,or e-mail me. All of the information would be helpful. Thank you!
