I have researched the Britt name back seven generations, mostly from information gleaned from FamilyGenforum and oral family history. I remember my great grandfather Hans Britt, who died in 1941,he was born in Henderson county Tn in 1853 his father Beacum Britt had returned to West Tn for the second time after having gone back to N.C. once before. According to my dad they, along with many other families were frightened by an earthquake and returned to N.C. Unfortunately,I don't know if this was the second New Madrid Quake which occured in the 1840's or not.If it was the +big one" that formed Reelfoot Lake in NW TN that happened in 1811 or 1812.Beacum would have been a child. It's possible that his Dad Ryals came to Tn at that time, but he died at an early age before 1814,I believe,I do know that his wife,Beacum's mother,Rhoda or Rhody Parish Britt came back to Tn with Beacum's family.
Ryal's dad wasd JOseph of N.C he was posibbly the son of John Britt Jr. from Isle of wight Va,but I haven't been able to prove that.
I met Maurice "Footsie" Britt in 1966 when he was LT.Governor of Ar.He was Meal of Honor winer in WW2.He told me his faily was from N>C> and had settled in Huntingdon Tn,that's next to my home county of Henderson, then his family left for Tx but,his direct line stopped off in Lonoke Ar area.I would appreciate any info on his line.
My sister Elsie Todd of Lexington Tn has a Britt family re-union in Sept of each year, would love to invite any Britt's with an interest in our line.
