About Our Family Research

I am writing the story of my great grandparents, Charles McKee and Annie Edith Hosking. Charles, born 1845, New South Wales, was the third of three children of John McKEE,born 1796, Kilkenny, Ireland and Lydia Mary CAESAR. Annie was the daughter of John HOSKING and Elizabeth Jane HAMMAT, born Gawler, South Australia.
McKEE - CAESAR - LODGE -
William McKEE, b. 1759 married Frances LODGE,b. 1764, daughter of Otway LODGE, Squire of Cashel Abbey, on September 17, 1793, Kilkenny. They had eight children: Margaret b.1794; Frances b. 1795; JOHN, b. 1796; Peter b. 1799; George b. 1801; Jane b. 1804; Letitia b. 1806; William b. 1808. I believe Margaret was transported to Australia. John, Lydia and their family, & John's mother came to Australia in 1840 and brother William McKee followed in 1854, having first gone to the US in 1850 with his wife Mary Ann Delap and 3 children _ john Tertius; Thomas and Mary. With them on the Rhodrick Dhu to NY was brother George and his wife Margaret. I do not know what happened to the others, but would love to hear from their descendants.Presumably George's are in America? Mary Ann Delap(pe) died, think in Boston.
Lydia May Caesar (Cezar) was born in 1808, probably Tipperary, to Julius and Sarah Caesar. She and John were married on July 16, 1828. I have not been able to trace her family.
HOSKING - HAMMAT (EMMET)- BAWDEN - STEPHENS
Elizabeth BAWDEN, born January 16, 1816, St Hilary, Cornwall, married Samuel HOSKING, born 1815, St Hilary. They had three sons - William, Samuel and John. There is still some confusion about their exact birth dates, though from late 1830's to mid 1840's.John HOSKING emigrated to South Australia, possibly 1865, where he met and married Elizabeth HAMMAT on Dec. 3 1834.
Elizabeth's father, John HAMMAT, was the sixth child born to James HAMMAT and Zenobia STEPHENS. Their marriage is registered as having occurred in Chacewater, Cornwall,on June 3, 1799, James last name being registered as EMMET, then again on May 31, 1801, under the name of HAMMAT. Their children were James, born 1801; William 1803; Ann 1806; Betsey 1808; Mary 1811; John 1812; Phebe Stephens, 1815; Mary 1817; Jenny 1820; Eliza, 1823.I would love to hear from descendants of any of these people.
John HAMMAT married Betsey STEPHENS on December 3, 1834 at Perranworthal, Cornwall. James was born on May 21, 1834,and they emigrated to Australia.
Whilst I have plenty of information on the lives of those who came to Australia, I am still searching for links to the countries they came from. The mystery of James Hammat/Emmet may have some connection to Robert EMMET who was hanged for treason in Dublin in 1803- but then again it may be sheer coincidence.
