Issac Nickell (son of Joseph Nickell) was born 1775 in Greenbrier River, Augusta County, Virginia, and died 1850 in Matthew, Morgan County, Kentucky.
Notes for Issac Nickell: Note - Isaac was reared in Bourbon Co., Kentucky. About 1810 he settled near the mouth of the White Oak Creek on the Licking River in the southeastern part of what is now Morgan County, KY, and about 20 miles east of the home of his brother John on Red River. He purchased this home from the Floyd County Seminary Association, acquiring 600 acres of land. He gave the ground for the first church in Morgan Co., founded by his nephew "Preacher Joe" NICKELL at White Oak in 1832. He and his third wife, Isabell, were two of the original eight members of this church. In 1824: Isaac NICKELL sued Uriah COTTLE, Uriah was accused of getting Isaac's daughter, Martha, pregnant. He sued for $5,000, but settled for $50 and costs. It is possible that Uriah raised the child which was born 1824/25. Witness for Isaac were: Ambrose JONES, Ben WELLS, William DYER, William ADAMS, James BROWN, Richard FERGUSON and wife, William McCLINTOCK Sr., Hezekiah McCLINTOCK, and Richard JONES. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------- In 1844: Isaac, sons William P. and Greenup, were sued by Samuel KEETON for breaking into "three or four of his houses and carrying away boards, roofs, and such, breaking windows and exposing his wife, who is in a very dangerous situation and jeopardized by exposure." He settled for $40 damages. Many NICKELLs were witnesses for KEETON, there were no witnesses for Isaac and his sons. Isaac was one of the first to promote the lumber industry in the county and at one time had 30,000 acres under lease according to the old Morgan County tax rolls. Isaac was buried by the Licking River.
