The Bruse family originated in Germany. Many branches can be found throughout Germany (mainly Mecklenburg and Schleswig-Holstein) and southern Denmark.
My particular line commences with Christian BRUSE and Catherina Maria BURMEISTER of Rostock, Germany and traces his line to Australia.
Christian and Catherina's son Andreas Heinrich (Heinrich) BRUSE married Maria Sophia Margaretha LUEBKE. Following Heinrich's death in Germany, Maria married Heinrich WEGE.
Heinrich and Maria WEGE and4 of their children emigrated to South Australia. They left Bremen aboard the SS George Washington on October 11, 1845 and arrived in Port Adelaide on January 24, 1846.
From here the family settled in different areas and took up various occupations such as:
Mining in Burra, SA.
Carpentry and building in Hahndorf, SA.
Hotelery in Quorn, SA and elsewhere.
