THE BRYANT FAMILY By John W. Bryant, Sr.

Updated July 31, 2002

About Our Family Research

When I started this genealogy research a few years ago I just wanted to find out about my paternal grandparents. After I knew a little about them in Texas, I then wanted to go back to Tennessee to try to determine what kind of people the Bryants were and what they did for a living. My grandfather Bryant homesteaded once in West Texas and then once in Estancia Valley, New Mexico. I found out my ancesters were mostly farmers and some were preachers. Some were wealthy and some were poor. Two of my people were Doctors of Medicene before the Revolutionary War; one during the Civil War and then three subsquently and three that are currently practicing.

I found that, at the beginning of the Civil War, eight brothers living in eastern Tennessee went into military service with 4 going north and four going south. I found that one relative, an officer, killed his own cousin during the Civil War.

On my wife's side I discovered, at least tradition has it, that one of her ancestors was a Hessian soldier, was captured and fought under Washington at Yorktown.

So this turned into a labor of love. And I am still not finished with my research. Please wish me continued good luck in these pursuits.

Now, I want to express this statement in the strongest possible terms. I have gathered much information from fellow researchers, the internet, individuals, records and publications and courthouses. I state that none, repeat none, of this information is guaranteed in any way. There will be errors and misstatements so use any of this information at your own risk. When you see these errors I will sincerely appreciate you letting me know.

This site will continue under construction as will my research. It is my hope this will be of help and assistance to one and many others. I hope something herein may catch your eye and inspire you to continue your research for it renders so much satisfaction.

My heart felt "Thank You" to all who have helped me. Many of you have encourged me. This is sincerely appreciated.
