HIMROD Family Geneology: descendants of Johann 1630

Updated November 15, 2008

About Our Family Research

Do you have the HIMROD surname in your family history? Would you like to learn more? Then this is the page for you!

Years ago, long before the Internet or even Census Indexes, we begin our search to discover our family history. It was an adventure that took up vacations that led us to courthouse basements, libaries, newspapers, geneology societies, graveyards, and the porches of strangers. We were our own detectives gathering clues to discover the mysterious of our family!

Roadblocks were slowly broken and small bits of information has finally led us through generations in Germany until 1630. After all the research, hours of data enteries, and writing we are ready to publish our book.

Our book will share our "Search for Ehren"; his descendants and his ancestors.

Our information will take the Himrod family to Germany to a period of time of wars, Prince owned villages and Abbeys.

Our research has proven that only three Himrods came to America early; Simon, Johann George and our line,Johann Ehrenreich. Most Himrods living in the U.S. today can trace their roots to Simon. However no one had additional information about Simon's parents, grandparents, etc. We have documented that Simon and Johann George were brothers and our Johann Ehrenreich was Simon's and Johann George's nephew. We have connected these three lines to the one line in Germany. Our book will share pictures of the still standing family church and the rebuilt Himmerod abbey! We trace our ancestors generations back beyond
the work of the "Story of the Old Farm". As well as our family line of Johann Ehrenreich, we have included the work of other Himrod researchers that traces family lines of Simon.

If you would like to know the family history before the Himrods in the U.S. you might be interested in purchasing our book. Our charge is only to cover the publishing cost. We have published only a minimum amount. If you would like more information please contact us through e-mail, my postal address or the guestbook. We would love to hear from other Himrods!

This Himrod book is available for sale. Request a brochure with details by e-mail- marcibryan@hotmail.com

  • Restored Himmerod Abbey near Bendorf Ger.(1178) (66 KB)
Even though the book, "The Story of the Old Farm" talks about the ruins of the abbey,1738,it has now been rebuilt. The name is believed to have come from a man who cleared the land named Haymo or Hemmo. "Rod" in German means to clear a tract of land. From this combination came the name, "Himmerod". By the 13th century the original name was lost and the name Himmerod Abbey remained.
  • Lutheran Church of Himrods in17th and 18th Cent. (52 KB)
This is a current picture is of the still standing Lutheran Church in Bendorf, Germany that was attended by the Himrod family. Simon and Johann Ehrendriech were baptized here. The church now is both Catholic and Lutheran. The white part of the building is Lutheran and the brick is Catholic.
