About Our Family Research

From Ireland to Pennsylvania then migrating to Western North Carolina, the Barnhills became known as the Barnwells around the onset of the Civil War.
William Barnhill is listed as a 1796 Flax Grower in Fermanagh County, Parish Clones. He left Ireland around July 1803 aboard the Regulator headed for Philadephia Pennslyvania. After a short stay in Bucks County Pennsylvania he migrated to Western North Carolina purchasing land on Hoopers Creek from John Lanning in 1814.
