My search for relatives/ancestors of the Bull family in Australia has been shrouded with mysteries and a few stories told to me by my late father. He was in fact my only source of imformation about my family background, and his knowledge only extended to a couple of yarns about the antics of his grandfather. This is my first real attempt to trace my family background, and curiousity is getting the better of me. On my late mother's side of the family, the modern Australian link is well identified, being easily traced back to pioneer settlers on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia. Early settlers sounds ancient but in Australia that represents about only six generations of "white" settlement. Like many non-aboriginal Australians the search for ancestral origins overseas is daunting. With the beginnings of Australia being a British convict colony, later populated by "free settlers" then being overwhelmed by gold prospectors from all over the world, proper documentation would have been difficult to maintain.
