 Includes NotesNotes for Israel White:
Israel White, brother of "Red" David White, was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, on June 6, 1761. He probably accompanied his elder brother to the Tenmile Country as early as 1774, and settled on Smith Creek, where on February 10, 1774, he warranted a tract of land under the title of "Rich Hills". This land joined that of Zebulon and Thomas Smith, and was at the head waters of Whiteley Creek, Laurel Run and a branch of Smith Creek, and in the later "Gordon Settlement". Israel White served in Captain James Archer's Company of Washington County Militia in the War of the Revolution.

During a alarm caused by the Indians in the year 1784, many of the settlers had fled to Fort Jackson for safety, including Israel White, whose task it was, to blow a large conch shell as an alarm to the ones near enough to hear it, warning them to come to the fort. Thomas Slater's family, who lived close to the fort was among those who sought safety on this occasion, and the Slater daughter, Sarah, decided there could be no more fitting time for a wedding, so she and Israel White were married on this auspicious occasion. Israel White died on January 3, 1816, and his widow, then fifty-six years of age, soon remarried, her second husband being John Shriver. She died August 1, 1854. Israel White's will was probated in Greene County on February 12, 1816.
