Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel with Dr. David Lowrie, pastor of First Baptist Church of Canyon, officiating. Bill was born June 20, 1935, in Golden to James Clinton Bullard and Mattie Faye Branum. Bill served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1958. On Oct. 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Peggy Ann Everhart, in Tucumcari, N.M. Bill taught metal trades at Palo Duro High School from 1970-1980. He then taught industrial cooperative trades at Canyon High School from 1980-1991. Bill was a talented wood carver, storyteller, fisherman, all around craftsman, and loved traveling the states. He loved working on his family genealogy and meeting distant relations. It has been said by those close to him that there was not one negative thing to be said in regards to his character. More than anything, Bill loved sharing the gospel of Christ. He preached at Faith City Mission, served as deacon of his church, and took the gospel to many lands. Special thanks are extended to his best friends Jimmy Marrs and Gary Jones; also to Dr. James Martindale, Dr. Kevin Raef, Dr. Eric Cox, Bob Thomas, Odyssey Health Care, and especially Ramona Pike. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. She married Willie Harvey Everhart on Feb. 2, 1935, in Silverton. After her husband was killed in World War II, she moved to Amarillo and worked hard to raise her son and daughter on her own. She worked for Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. for more than 20 years and then for Amarillo Answering Service for several years before her retirement. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family meant the world to her, and she loved them dearly. She loved to read, quilt and spend time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ethyl Porterfield, Faye Milton and Deane Garrett; a brother, Bob Dunavant; and a son, Billy Ray Everhart. A veteran of World War II, where he served in Europe, he was a carpenter and a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Childress. Smith was born Sept. 2, 1923, in Flomot, a son of the late Elmer and Banksie King Smith. A veteran of World War II, where he served in Europe, he was a carpenter and a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Childress. Surviving are two daughters, Betty Merritt of Aurora, Cob., and Carolyn Cobb of Davis, Okla.; four sons, Donald Lewis of Vernon, Larry Smith of Davis, Okla., Jack Smith of Wichita Falls and Bill Smith of Mississippi; five sisters, Ruth Phelps and Burnie Schaar, both of Canon City, Cob., Edna Dale of Vernon, Lula Starnes of Glen Rose and Mary Cozart of Hale Center; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. An infant brother, Jerrell Smith, and two sisters, Lois Dunavant and Joyce Smith preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
