Decendants of John Butcher

Updated November 9, 2000

About Our Family Research

I am researching the ancestors and decendants of John Butcher (1725 - 1778), of Londoun County, Virginia. Other websites point to the Butcher family being recognized as one of the first colonial families in the United States. There appears to be two distinct family lines being researched; one originating in West Virginia and the other in Virginia.

My particular line took the phrase "Go West young man" to heart and crossed the United States, through Missouri to Oregon. I live in Texas and my children live in Japan (half-Japanese), so the Butcher name has gotten around.

I am looking to join the "1600 Club." I am also trying to find out if we are English, German or another nationality. Perhaps the WV Butchers are German while we are English.
