The Surname BUTLER-CAUGHIE was created with the marriage of Eileen Karen BUTLER and Fredrick John CAUGHIE on 21 June 1986. Symbolic of the TWO becoming ONE in matrimony, the TWO SURNAMES became ONE.

Fredrick was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1953 where he received his early education later moving to Toronto for Post Secondary studies. His paternal grandfather, Samuel Caughey, immigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in the early 1920s from Ireland. His parents were born in Wigton, Inch, Scotland.

Eileen was born on Toronto, Ontario, Canada where she received her public school education as well as Post Secondary studies. Her father, Alan BUTLER, was born in Musgrave Harbour, Newfoundland, Canada. Having left Newfoundland in search of employment, he settled in Toronto.

Fredrick and Eileen are both ordained ministers of religion (Salvation Army) working in Toronto. Fredrick is also a Chaplain in the Canadian Armed Forces. Their children are Jason, Kristen, Jonathan and Aaron.

They are tracing their family's roots in Scotland, Ireland and Newfoundland so as to make the connections of those who have gone before them and who are a part of who they are today.

    The Butler-Caughie clan originated with the marriage of Fredrick John Caughie (Caughey) and Eileen Karen Butler on 21 June 1986. Two dinstinct families truly became as one with the merger of Butler and Caughie (Caughey) into one name.
